Grants

We make payments of grants to state and territory governments, local councils and community organisations to support government priorities.

We manage our grants programs in accordance with the government’s legislative framework, the Commonwealth Grant Guidelines and the department’s grants management guidelines.

Current grants

Australia's Human Rights Framework Education Grants - provides funding to a wide range of community organisations to help deliver practical, grassroots human rights education projects for the community and vulnerable groups.

Building Community Resilience Grants Program - supports community projects across Australia to build resilience to violent extremism.

Commonwealth Human Rights Education Program - funds non-government organisations to prepare and deliver human rights education programs to the Australian community.

Commonwealth Legal Financial Assistance - funding covers legal representation costs and disbursements in proceedings involving Commonwealth law, or in circumstances that give rise to a special Commonwealth interest, and where legal aid is not available.

Community Legal Services Program - funds community legal centres to provide assistance on legal and related matters to people on low incomes and those with special needs.

Family Violence Prevention Legal Services for Indigenous Australians Program - provides culturally sensitive assistance to Indigenous victim-survivors of family violence and sexual assault through legal assistance, court support, casework and counselling.

Indigenous Justice Program - funds projects to rehabilitate and reduce contact of Indigenous Australians with the criminal justice system.

Native Title Anthropologist Grants Program - seeks to attract a new generation of junior anthropologists to native title work and encourage senior anthropologists to remain within the system.

National Broadband Network (NBN) Regional Legal Assistance Program - funds trial NBN-based initiatives that seek to strengthen and increase legal assistance delivery in regional and remote areas.

Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 - section 298 payment - provides a scheme for tracing, restraining and confiscating the proceeds of crime against Australian law.

Safer Suburbs Program - aims to address crime and anti-social behaviour by funding community safety measures.

Secure Schools Program - funds security-related infrastructure of schools.
