Crime prevention

Crime prevention is important for the safety of all Australians.

We fund and administer a number of crime prevention activities including:

Proceeds of Crime Act - provides a scheme for tracing, restraining and confiscating the proceeds of crime against Australian law.

National Community Crime Prevention Programme - improving community safety and security, and reducing the fear of crime.

Review of the Crimes Act 1914 - we reviewed Subdivision A of Division 6 of Part VIIC of the Crimes Act 1914 on disclosing information about a person's criminal history. The aim of the review was to determine whether the provisions in the Act are helping to protect children from sexual, physical and emotional harm.

National Youth Policing Model - aims to reduce, prevent and respond to youth violence and anti-social behaviour.

Child sex tourism - Australians who travel overseas to sexually abuse children will face tough penalties.
