Review of Technological Protection Measure exceptions

We are undertaking a review of additional exceptions to the technological protection measure provisions in the Copyright Act 1968. Technological protection measures (TPMs) are technical locks copyright owners use to stop their material being copied or accessed without permission.

Interested stakeholders were invited to make submissions on whether existing exceptions are still appropriate and whether any new exceptions should be added.

A guidance sheet outlining the existing exceptions and the criteria for review of additional exceptions is available for download below:

Submissions seeking a new exception, revocation of an exception or variation of an exception were accepted until 17 August 2012. Further submissions in support of or against first round submissions were accepted until 12 October 2012.

The first and second round submissions have now been published online.
