Protective Security Training Centre (PSTC)

About us

The Protective Security Training Centre (PSTC) is the Australian Government's provider of protective security training to Australian Government agencies, State and Territory government agencies and government contractors.

The PSTC is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).

Career pathways

Security training programs contribute to a number of career pathways for Australian Public Service levels 1-6 and Executive Level, including:

  • general protective security
  • personnel security (vetting)
  • security risk management, and
  • specialist security practitioners, including physical security, ICT security and security investigation.

Participants can specialise in the security field most relevant to their needs.

Nationally recognised qualifications

PSTC accredited courses lead to nationally recognised qualifications. PSTC accredited courses are mapped to nationally recognised qualifications and competencies contained in the Public Sector Training Package 04 Version 3.

  • Protective security
  • Personnel security (vetting)
  • Physical security
  • Security risk management
  • Security management
  • Government investigation

In addition to our training services, the PSTC offers an assessment service through Assessment by Recognition.

Who is eligible?

Our programs are particularly relevant to any staff required to manage and implement government security policy as outlined in the Australian Government Protective Security Manual.

Participants must be employees of either:

  • Australian government agencies
  • State and Territory government agencies
  • local government agencies
  • contractors to government, or
  • organisations that make up Australia’s national critical infrastructure.

The PSTC may consider attendance by individuals who do not meet the eligibility criteria above provided there is a substantiated need. Consideration of eligibility will be on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us for more information.
