In 2005, a discussion paper was released by the Attorney-General’s Department regarding Fair Use in Copyright. The purpose of this paper was to seek the views of the public on whether the one per cent cap on copyright licence fees paid by radio broadcasters for playing sound recordings on the radio should be retained.
After receiving a number of submissions in response to the issues paper, the Australian Attorney-General has released significant copyright reforms that address this issue amongst other things. These reforms are announced in a media release by the Attorney-General in May 2006.
