In Australia legislation concerning children and families derives from the States, Territories and Commonwealth. Where the legislation of one jurisdiction interacts or overlaps with that of another jurisdiction - as occurs when child protection issues are raised in family law matters - the objective of ensuring that services for children are at an acceptable standard raises issues for both levels of government.
