About us
The Australian Government Computer Emergency Readiness Team (GovCERT.au) was established in 2005 to assist e-security policy formulation and to liaise with foreign government Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs).
GovCERT.au coordinates Australian Government policy for computer emergency preparedness, response, readiness and recovery in relation to Australia’s critical infrastructure. GovCERT.au is responsible for providing advice, information and funding to help owners and operators of critical infrastructure secure their networks and systems.
GovCERT.au is the point of contact within the Australian Government for foreign governments on CERT issues impacting on Australia’s critical infrastructure, and coordinates any related requests. From time to time GovCERT.au receives information technology security information for distribution to Australian businesses, including critical infrastructure owners and operators.
GovCERT.au also manages the Australian Government’s Computer Network Vulnerability Assessment Program, which provides cash grants to critical infrastructure owners and operators to undertake security assessments of their IT systems and networks.
GovCERT.au does not handle day-to-day computer incidents. For owners and operators of critical infrastructure who wish to report a serious IT security incident and/or request assistance, please call the National Information Infrastructure Hotline on (02) 6266 9145. This hotline is attended 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
