Consultation on Draft Report under the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography - 2008

The Attorney-General's Department invites public comment on the draft of Australia’s first report under the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography. The text of the draft report can be downloaded via the links on the right of this page.

Australia ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child on 17 December 1990. The text of the Convention is available on the Australasian Legal Information Institute website.

Australia submitted its initial report under the Convention in 1995, and submitted a combined second and third report in 2003. These reports describe how Australia implements its obligations through a range of Commonwealth and State and Territory laws and programs. Australia last appeared before the Committee on the Rights of the Child in 2005.

Australia ratified the Optional Protocol on 8 January 2007 and it entered into force for us one month later. The Government’s initial report under this instrument is due to be submitted on 8 February 2009.
