The Ninth Australia – Indonesia Ministerial Forum was held in Canberra on 12 November 2008.
The meeting enables the government to government working groups established to promote mutual interests to report on their diverse activities. The Forum also provides an opportunity for business people to meet and speak with Ministers.
The International Legal Services Advisory Council (ILSAC) has a specific interest in international legal cooperation and in promoting these links between Australia and Indonesia. Members encouraged and supported the formation of the Working Group on Legal Cooperation (WGLC).
The Working Group on Legal Cooperation was established at the Forum in 1999 in recognition of the significant increase in the number of legal cooperation activities which were occurring between the two countries. The WGLC has private and public sector membership and is jointly chaired by the Australian Government Attorney-General’s Department and the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights. Secretariat services in Australia are provided by the Attorney-General's Department’s International Legal Services Policy Section.
The Working Group on Legal Cooperation last met in Canberra on 10 and 11 November 2008 (directly preceding the Forum).
Reports are available from each meeting of the Working Group:
A Memorandum of Understanding on Legal Cooperation was signed by the Attorney-General of Australia and the Indonesian Minister for Justice and Human Rights on 25 October 2000. Both Ministers jointly opened the inaugural meeting of the Working Group on Legal Cooperation which was held in Jakarta on 10 and 11 April 2002.
