Registration year 1 September 2008 - 31 August 2009 Note: This information applies only to marriage celebrants registered by the Commonwealth. |
The 2008-2009 compulsory ongoing professional development activity is to be provided in the form of a DVD. This will be the only method of completing the compulsory activity.
This is to ensure that every marriage celebrant receives uniform, consistent information in a format they can keep and use for their own reference in the future.
Is this the only way the 2008-2009 compulsory activity will be delivered?
Yes, the DVD is the only method of completing the compulsory activity.
Is there a questionnaire option?
No. The DVD is the only method of completing the compulsory activity.
What is the topic for the 2008-2009 compulsory activity?
The DVD revises and summarises the topics in the past five years’ compulsory activities. These include:
Where can I get a copy of the DVD?
You will be able to purchase the DVD through our contracted supplier, CanPrint Communications when it is available.
How long will the DVD be?
The DVD will count for two hours of your ongoing professional development for this year, leaving you with three other hours to complete.
What will it cost?
The cost of the DVD has not yet been finalised. As soon as it has, the information will be published here on our website.
When will the DVD be available?
We will advise on this website when the DVD will be available for purchase from CanPrint Communications.
What if I don’t have a DVD player?
If you are unable to play the DVD in your own home, you may be able to call on a family member, neighbour or friend to use their DVD player. Alternatively, you might be able to visit a local community centre, library or school. Or you might like to contact your Marriage Celebrant Association or call upon a marriage celebrant colleague to help you out.
How will the Marriage Celebrants Section know that I have undertaken the compulsory activity?
CanPrint will supply the Marriage Celebrants Section with purchase lists on a regular basis. It is important that you quote your correct “A” number along with your full name, when you contact CanPrint to buy the DVD.
Can we watch the DVD as a group?
Yes, you can watch the DVD as a member of a group if you wish, but watching the DVD as a member of a group will not count as having completed the activity. Each member of the group will need to buy their own copy of the DVD, to ensure each marriage celebrant has their own copy for future use as a reference tool. The only record of your completion of the activity will be the records supplied to the Department by CanPrint.
Can an Association purchase the DVD in bulk?
No, Associations will not be able to buy copies of the DVD in bulk. If you wish, you and your Association may wish to arrange to watch the DVD as a group, but each Commonwealth-registered marriage celebrant will still need to buy their own copy of the DVD, to ensure that each has their own copy for future use as a reference tool. The only record of your completion of the activity will be the records of purchase supplied to the Department by CanPrint.
What about the other ongoing professional development I need to do in 2008-2009?
More information will be available on this website shortly about your remaining 2008-2009 ongoing professional development obligations.
