Seeking approval for activities available to you locally to count for your own ongoing professional development
You may wish to undertake a course offered by a community education facility or TAFE or some other body in order to develop skills that would be helpful to you for your marriage celebrant role.
For example, you may wish to:
- attend a church training or teaching session, group meeting or retreat to discuss issues about performing your marriage celebrant role. This would be particularly suitable for marriage celebrants conducting religious ceremonies
- attend training or information sessions offered by cultural or community groups on marriage customs or rituals in different cultural contexts
- attend a TAFE or community education course, eg one covering basic or advanced computer skills such as electronic record keeping or record keeping facilities, or one that would assist the professional performance of your marriage celebrant role in another way.
If you would like to seek approval for such an activity to count towards fulfilling your own Ongoing Professional Development (OPD) obligations, here’s what you need to do:
- complete the application form
- submit the application form before you commence the activity – retrospective approvals will not be granted: please allow at least one month for the Marriage Celebrants Section to consider your application and reply to you
- please send an original application with a signature. You may e-mail the application form in advance if you wish, provided you then follow up and send the form with your signature.
If you would like to discuss an activity you have in mind before submitting an application form, please don’t hesitate to ring or e-mail the Marriage Celebrants Section. All messages left by phone or e-mail are passed on by our rostered enquiries officers.
You will be advised in writing of the outcome of consideration of your application. If your application is approved, you will be assigned an activity code number that you need to record on your Annual Return form at the end of the registration year.
