Family Law Section
The Family Law Section is responsible for the administration of the Family Law Act 1975 through:
- the development of policy about family law matters, including children’s matters, property matters and dissolution of marriage matters
- the consideration and development of reforms and amendments to the Family Law Act 1975, including those suggested by the Family Law Council, the Family Court of Australia, the Federal Magistrates Court, Parliamentary Committees, the Australian Law Reform Commission and the Law Council of Australia, and
- responding to correspondence and enquiries from members of the public about family law matters.
The functions of the Family Law Section are to provide legal and policy advice to the Attorney-General on matters relating to family law. The Section does not provide legal advice to members of the public.
