
The role of the Intercountry Branch is to provide legal and policy advice to the Attorney-General, the Australian Government and Australian Government agencies with responsibility for matters relating to intercountry adoption.
The Branch is also responsible for implementing the recommendations of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Family and Human Services’ report, Overseas Adoption in Australia.
In particular, the Branch has taken on responsibility for the establishment of new, and the management of existing, intercountry adoption programs with overseas governments.
