National Human Rights Consultation Report

On 30 September 2009 the National Human Rights Committee reported on its nationwide consultation to the Attorney-General, the Hon Robert McClelland MP. The National Human Rights Consultation Committee, Father Frank Brennan SJ AO (Chair), Ms Mary Kostakidis, Mr Mick Palmer and Ms Tammy Williams, has conducted an extensive consultation into human rights protections in Australia holding 66 community roundtables in 52 locations across Australia. The Committee  also received in excess of 35,000 submissions and conducted three days of public hearings in Canberra which were attended by many hundreds of people.

The Australian Government is currently considering the report and will respond in coming months.
