What is the Standing Committee of Attorneys-General (Censorship)?

The Standing Committee of the Attorneys General (SCAG) also oversees the National Classification Scheme for film and video and for printed material.  In most jurisdictions, Attorneys-General are also Ministers responsible for Censorship. 

The Intergovernmental Agreement on Censorship requires that certain changes to the National Classification Scheme must be considered and agreed to by all Censorship Ministers.

When and where does SCAG (Censorship) meet?

Classification issues are generally discussed twice a year at SCAG meetings.

Who is involved in SCAG (Censorship)?

Secretariat functions for SCAG (Censorship) are performed by the Classification Policy Branch in the Australian Government Attorney-General’s Department.

SCAG members are supported by Censorship officers nominated by their respective Departments.  Officers generally meet six weeks before Ministers meet.
