What is the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) supports an applicant receiving recognition and credit for acquired knowledge, skills, previous non-accredited training and / or from relevant work experience. It involves identifying, collecting and evaluating a portfolio of evidence that relates to work you have personally performed while working in a protective security environment. Your evidence must also be up-to-date and relevant to industry standards.

The steps in the RPL process are:

Step 1

  • Download the RPL Application Kit or request the kit from the PSCC Training Centre.
  • Self assess your current competence to decide whether you meet the requirements and what evidence you can provide.
  • Speak to a Training Centre assessor and agree on an Evidence Plan.

Step 2

  • Collect the evidence.
  • Demonstrate in your Evidence Plan your competence in the unit(s) you are seeking recognition for.

Step 3

  • Submit your Portfolio of Evidence to the PSCC Training Centre for assessment.
  • A Training Centre assessor will arrange your recognition interview.

Step 4

  • Participate in the recognition interview.

Step 5

  • If assessed as Competent receive an award.
  • If assessed as Not Yet Competent, provide additional evidence requested by the assessor OR complete additional training prior to reassessment.
