Award – Statement of Attainment
Course aim
The aim of the 5-day Advanced Physical Security (APHYS) course is to enhance the capability of physical security practitioners by developing their knowledge, insight and the skills necessary to provide competent physical security services in a contemporary protective security environment.
Learning objectives
Develop the underpinning knowledge and skills to:
- protect assets from security threats
- minimise security threats, based on Australian / New Zealand Standard on Risk Management AS/NZ 4360:2004 and Standards Australia / Standards New Zealand Handbook on Risk Management HB 167:2006
- assess and advise on security incidents, and
- plan an incident response.
Key content areas
- Australian government physical security policy and procedures
- Application of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
- Technical capabilities of contemporary security technologies
- Physical security requirements for ICT
- Managing physical security projects, contracts and contractors, and
- Development of a Statement of Requirement for physical security projects.
The course includes skills-based workshops, quick decision exercises, practical examples, case studies, exercises, and facilitated discussions. Site visits are an integral component and provide participants with a valuable opportunity to interact with subject-matter experts, and gain experience in the practical application of physical security measures. The course includes a visit to the T4 testing facility.
Course prerequisites
Either:
- prior completion of security risk management training, or
- have a sound understanding of, and experience in, the application of risk management principles, specifically the Australian / New Zealand Standard on Risk Management AS/NZ 4360:2004 and the Standards Australia / Standards New Zealand Handbook on Risk Management HB 167:2006.
