Managing Protective Security

Award – Diploma of Government (Security)

The Managing Protective Security course forms one module of a two-module course that leads to the award of a Diploma in Government (Security)

  1. Managing Protective Security course (5 days), and
  2. Advanced Security Risk Management course (5 days).

Course aim

The aim of the 5-day Managing Protective Security (MPS) course is to provide the knowledge, insight and skills necessary for senior managers, Agency Security Advisors (ASA), and Information Technology Security Advisors (ITSA), personnel security assessing officer supervisors and team leaders to lead and manage the effective provision of high level protective security functions.

Participants gain, through experiential learning, the knowledge and skills required to integrate and manage the broad range of protective security elements within an agency.  The program includes skills-based workshops, quick decision exercises, practical examples, case studies, exercises, discussions, site visits and a valuable opportunity to interact with visiting subject-matter experts.

  • provide security advice and support
  • coordinate and monitor security
  • disseminate security policy
  • develop security contingency plans
  • win resources to support security objectives, and

Course prerequisites

Certificate IV in Government (Security) or extensive experience in protective security.

Course co-requisites

Participants are also required to successfully complete the Advanced Security Risk Management course to qualify for the Diploma in Government (Security) award.
