The program is an initiative of the Australian Government and provides up to $75,000 for grants to both Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Christmas Island each year. It targets projects seeking to promote economic development in the Territories that will increase employment opportunities, improve skills, expand/upgrade infrastructure or increase community capacity to become economically more sustainable.
All applications are assessed against criteria relating to outcomes, local support, project viability, applicant capability, competitive advantage and cost shifting. However, meeting the assessment criteria does not guarantee funding. Applications are assessed on their merits on a case-by-case basis and a final funding decision is made by the Minister for Home Affairs.
To lodge an application contact the Deputy Administrator who can assist in developing an application, and advise on obtaining community and business support and identifying possible project partners.
If an application is successful, a funding agreement will be negotiated between the applicant and the Australian Government.
To apply you must complete the application form, using the guidelines for direction. If you are unable to download the information, contact the Attorney-General’s Department on 02 6218 6965 or contact:
