Biographical details—Katherine Jones

Katherine Jones is Deputy Secretary for the National Security and Emergency Management Group, as well as the Criminal Justice Group in the Attorney-General's Department. In her role as Deputy Secretary, National Security and Emergency Management Group, Katherine is responsible for a wide range of matters relating to national security, counter-terrorism, countering violent extremism, crisis coordination, protective security and emergency management.

As Deputy Secretary for the Criminal Justice Group, Katherine is responsible for criminal justice policy and programmes, international law enforcement cooperation, international legal assistance and AusCheck.

Katherine joined the Attorney-General's Department in 1999 and has worked in a broad range of areas across the department including, international crime cooperation, copyright, administrative law, human rights, native title, legal aid and Indigenous justice. Prior to joining the department, Katherine worked as a publisher at McGraw-Hill for 10 years.

Katherine has a Bachelor of Arts from La Trobe University and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New South Wales.
