On 14 December 2010, the Attorney General referred to the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs (the Committee) an inquiry into the regulation of billboard advertising. The inquiry considered the extent to which the current self-regulatory scheme for billboard advertising continues to be an effective method for managing this form of advertising in Australia.

On 4 July 2011, the Committee published its report titled Reclaiming Public Space. The report is available from the Parliament of Australia website.

On 16 August 2012, the Government Response to the Committee's inquiry was tabled in Parliament.
