Pacific Legal Policy Champions Program

The Policy Champions Program aims to build the capacity of Pacific law and justice officers to develop rigorous public policy proposals and enable them to be champions for good policy development practices.

Participants are trained and supported to deliver the Pacific Legal Policy Development Course to their home agency and across government. The intensive program includes discussion with subject matter experts and government stakeholders on priority policy issues from across the Australian Government and academia.

We support participants to share their knowledge and build institutional capability by training them to deliver the department's Legal Policy Development Course within three months of their return home. We expect participants to actively engage with our network of Pacific policy alumni and the Pacific Islands Law Officers' Network (PILON). This includes sharing their program experience in Talanoa, the PILON newsletter.

How to apply

Applications for 2018 have now closed.

Applications for the 2019 programs are expected to open in June 2019.

There are usually about seven places available in this program. Participants are selected through a competitive application process against the selection criteria. Participation is also subject to passport, visa and security clearances.
