Revised AusCheck Statistics 2012-13

The AusCheck figures reported on page 45 of the 2012-13 Annual Report are incorrect. The AusCheck statistics omitted the follow up background checks for the Maritime Identification Card scheme and reported incorrectly on the number of database requests for national security and/or law enforcement purposes. Revised figures have been provided below.

During the reporting period, AusCheck completed:

  • 71 594 background checks for the Aviation Security Identification Card scheme
  • 38 333 background checks for the Maritime Security Identification Card scheme
  • 8895 follow up background checks for the Maritime Security Identification Card scheme
  • 189 background checks for the National Health Security checking scheme.

During the 2012-13 reporting period, AusCheck received fifty-five requests for access to the AusCheck database for information for national security and/or law enforcement purposes. Requesting agencies were the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service, the Office of Transport Security, the Australian Crime Commission and the Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity (ACLEI).
