Update—monetary value of a penalty unit (page 42 of the guide)
On 31 July 2015, the monetary value of a penalty unit increased from $170 to $180 (see section 4AA of the Crimes Act 1914). The penalty unit will be adjusted every three years from 1 July 2018 in accordance with the Consumer Price Index.
Departments should consult with the Criminal Law and Law Enforcement Branch before proceeding with draft provisions that are inconsistent with certain fundamental principles in the guide.
