Australia's Regional Summit to Counter Violent Extremism was held on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 June 2015 in Sydney, Australia. The Regional CVE Summit provided an important platform for participants to collaborate to meet the shared challenge posed by the dissemination of terrorist propaganda. Participants recognised that the online environment has no borders and terrorist propaganda can reach everyone in the region online, a collective effort is required to counter this threat.
The Summit followed the White House Summit held in Washington D.C in February 2015. It brought together key stakeholders from government, civil society and industry across the region with the aim of building capacity to address the threat posed by violent extremist groups.
This Summit was one of a number of regional events planned for 2015. The outcomes will inform future contributions to a leaders' event, which will be held in the margins of the UN General Assembly in September 2015.
Australia's Summit will deliver practical and tangible outcomes, building on the work underway globally to implement UNSCR 2178, and the programme of work commenced by the White House CVE Summit in February 2015.
