Building industry
On 2 December 2016 the Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC) was established under the Building and Construction Industry (Improving Productivity) Act 2016, replacing Fair Work Building and Construction.
The ABCC is responsible for administering the Code for the Tendering and Performance of Building Work 2016 (Building Code).

Review of the Building and Construction Industry (Improving Productivity) Act 2016
On 6 December 2018, the Australian Government tabled the Review of the Building and Construction Industry (Improving Productivity) Act 2016. The review found that the Australian Building and Construction Commission activities are consistent with its role as a full-service regulator, and the higher penalties applying to the sector should be retained.
Review of Security of Payment Laws
In 2017, the Government commissioned the national Review of Security of Payment Laws (the Review) to examine ways to improve consistency in security of payment legislation and enhance protections to ensure subcontractors get paid on time for work they have done. The final report was published 21 May 2018.
Review of Workplace Health and Safety laws in the construction industry
In 2018, the national review of the Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulatory framework in the building and construction industry (the review) was completed. The review was conducted by Seyfarth Shaw Australia with assistance from the former Department of Jobs and Small Business.
