Community Legal Services Programme
From 1 July 2015, state and territory governments are responsible for the allocation and administration of Australian Government funding for the majority of community legal centres. Commonwealth funding is provided to states and territories through the National Partnership Agreement on Legal Assistance Services.
The current Community Legal Services Programme retains the same name but has been revised to be delivered as a nationally focussed discretionary grants programme, administered by the Attorney-General's Department. The programme will be managed outside of the National Partnership Agreement on Legal Assistance Services. The programme's objective is to support the provision of legal assistance to the community, by funding national service delivery projects, innovative pilot programmes, and programme support activities.
