The Australian Government has made changes to functions overseen by the Attorney-General's Department and Department of Home Affairs. These changes involve the transfers of:

  • identity and biometrics functions into the Attorney-General's Department
  • protective security policy and government and major event security functions to the Department of Home Affairs.

Review of the Commonwealth Modern Slavery Act 2018​

Closing date

On 31 March 2022, Assistant Minister for Customs, Community Safety and Multicultural Affairs, the Hon Jason Wood MP, announced​ the commencement of the Government’s statutory review of the Commonwealth Modern Slavery Act 2018 (the Act).

The review also supports the implementation of Australia’s National Action Plan to Combat Modern Slavery 2020-25​​, in which the Government committed to undertake a review of the Act in 2022.

Terms of Reference

The Australian Border Force developed a Terms of Reference for the review.​
