Government Response to the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee Report on the Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024
On 7 May 2026, the Australian Government tabled its response to the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee’s report on the Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024.
The government agreed or agreed in part with the committee’s recommendations. The recommendations were implemented by government amendments to the Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024, and the inclusion of information in the addendum to the Explanatory Memorandum. The Bill passed the Parliament on 29 November 2024 and received Royal Assent on 10 December 2024.
The Opposition made an additional 12 recommendations. The government agreed to 2 recommendations, did not agree to 2 recommendations and noted 7 recommendations.
