Statement of meeting outcomes

Statement of Position

1. The Council considered a Working Draft of the Statement of Position on the implementation by agencies of administrative review decisions of courts and tribunals.
2. The Council will continue to progress the Draft Statement of Position between Council meetings. 

Migration Inquiry

3. At its meeting on 19 May 2025 the Council resolved to inquire and report on provisions relating to migration and asylum matters enacted upon the establishment of the ART, in the Administrative Review Tribunal (Consequential and Transitional Provisions No 1) Act 2024 (Cth).
4. The Council approved Terms of Reference and a consultation process as part of this Inquiry. The Terms of Reference will be published on the Council’s webpage.
5. Limited amendments are to be made to the draft Issues Paper for this Inquiry, with a view to the Council approving it between meetings.

Social Security Inquiry 

6. The Council noted that the public consultation for the Social Security Inquiry is currently underway. The Secretariat will monitor responses received. 

Guides and other reports

7. The Council considered a draft Annual Report for 2024-25 and resolved to proceed with limited amendments. These will be made with a view to the Council approving the Annual Report between meetings.
8. The Council is progressing a checklist of topics to be addressed in the planned new Best Practice Guide: Improving the Quality of Administrative Decision-making.

9. The Council resolved to proceed with 6 meetings in 2026.
