National Commissioner for Defence and Veteran Suicide Prevention

The National Commissioner for Defence and Veteran Suicide Prevention (NCDVSP) was an independent position created to inquire into, and support the prevention of, suicide in the Australian Defence and Veteran community.

The interim National Commissioner, Dr Bernadette Boss CSC, was appointed on 16 November 2020 to begin work on an Independent Review into Past Defence and Veteran Suicides, in line with the terms of reference.

On 08 July 2021, the former Prime Minister, the Hon Scott Morrison MP, announced the beginning of the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.

In light of this announcement, Dr Boss was provided with supplementary terms of reference asking her to conclude her work as the interim National Commissioner by 15 September 2021. On 15 September 2021, Dr Boss presented her report to the former Government about her Independent Review of Past Defence and Veteran Suicides.

Other content produced by the NCDVSP, including round table summaries and documents related to the Independent Review, can be found on the National Library of Australia's Trove web archive.
