Biographical details—Cameron Gifford
Cameron is Deputy Secretary for the Justice and Communities Group of the Attorney-General’s Department.
The Justice and Communities Group has responsibility for advising the government on policy and managing programs relating to:
- First Nations justice
- native title
- legal assistance services
- justice system responses to sexual assault
- courts and tribunals
- commercial and copyright law
- family law
- child and family safety.
Cameron has extensive experience at the senior executive level across a number of corporate, policy and legal areas of the department.
Before his current role, Cameron led the department’s Enabling Services Group which covers all corporate services for the department including strategy and governance, finance and budget, human resources, business operations and IT.
He has also worked in a variety of national security related roles within the department, the Attorney-General's office and portfolio intelligence agencies.
Cameron is our Disability Champion. He works to promote inclusive work practices within the department.
Cameron holds degrees in arts and law from the University of Tasmania and masters degrees in law and public administration from the Australian National University.
