APEC Cross Border Privacy Rules – Australia’s participation

Closing date
In July 2017, the Australian Government invited businesses and interested stakeholders to comment on a discussion paper about Australia's participation in the Cross Border Privacy Rules system. The system was developed by participating APEC economies with the aim of building consumer, business and regulator trust in cross border flows of personal information.

Proposed amendments to the foreign bribery offence in the Criminal Code Act 1995

Closing date
In 2017, the Australian Government explored possible reform options to improve the effectiveness of the offence in addressing foreign bribery, and to remove unnecessary barriers to successful prosecution.

Proposed model for a deferred prosecution agreement scheme in Australia

Closing date
In 2017, a public consultation paper was released on a proposed model for a Deferred Prosecution Agreement (DPA) scheme to facilitate a more effective and efficient response to corporate crime by encouraging greater self-reporting by companies.

Proposed amendments to the Family Law Act 1975 to respond to family violence

In 2016, the Australian Government invited public comment on an exposure draft of proposed legislative amendments to the Family Law Act 1975 that would improve the family law system’s response to family violence.

In November 2016, the department sought views on ongoing professional development (OPD) requirements and the Guidelines on conflict of interest and benefit to business for Commonwealth-registered marriage celebrants.

Statutory review of the Personal Property Securities Act 2009

Closing date

In 2014, a review of the Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (PPS Act) was announced as required by section 343 of the PPS Act. The final report was tabled before Parliament on 18 March 2015.

Review of Information sharing in family law and child protection

Closing date
In April 2012, Professor Richard Chisholm AM was engaged by the department to assist with the development of a best practice framework to improve the exchange of information by the federal family courts and the state and territory child protection systems. Outcomes were published in 2013 and 2014.

COAG Review of Counter-Terrorism Legislation

Closing date
Report of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG). The review evaluated the operation, effectiveness and implications of key Commonwealth, state and territory counter-terrorism laws.
